Today we spoke with Pink Productions very own Cierra!
Today we spoke with Pink Productions very own Cierra! Cierra is an amazing photographer and videographer, with aspirations of bringing her own style into the visual world. Check out her story!
How was your childhood growing up? When did you know you wanted to be a photographer?
I actually had a good childhood. Despite not having my father in my life my mom gave us as much as she could, which was a lot! I also never realized this as a kid but I actually grew up around so much diversity, being interracial had a lot to do with that. When it comes to photography, I knew I was into it when my grandma first showed me her camera. She would let me play her camera and I loved it. Although I didn’t get serious about photography until a few years ago, it was always just something I enjoyed.
Growing up, did you ever struggle with anything? If so, how did you overcome those struggles?
Oh man, I had a few struggles but mostly personal ones. I honestly had bad self-esteem as a kid and as a teenager. I’ve grown so much since then. Now I definitely have so much more confidence and have started to learn so much about me: who I am, what I like, etc. I feel as though it was just a huge hormonal stage for me and it took a lot of positivity and love for me to realize that I am a beautiful young woman.
You have a love for the arts, what do you want to do with photography and videography in the future?
I don’t even know where to begin…there is so much that I want to do with my photography and videography. One thing I am really interested in is creating my own lookbook. I’m very into fashion and want to start doing more photography that ties in with my style. As for my videography, I would love to help direct a music video! I have a huge love for music and it’s something that I feel very strongly about. I can’t sing or really dance but there’s just something about music that gets to me. Those are just two things out of the hundred that I’m interested in doing with my photography and videography.
In the industry, what are some of the boundaries you’ve had to push through and how did you overcome them?
Honestly I’m still trying to push through boundaries. One of the biggest things in this industry is having your own style and being unique. I’m currently still trying to really figure out more about my style, as it is constantly changing and evolving. To overcome this, I’m trying to learn to stay as true to myself as possible. I don’t want to force anything or be someone I’m not.
What advice would you give to women who want to follow your footsteps?
Just do it! If you’ve find yourself passionate about something then stick to it and just find ways to constantly improve. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. You will always be too little or too much for someone, so you just need to be you and be happy being you! Remain positive and go out into the world with your head high and watch how much you can accomplish.
