We were excited to feature someone with a similar platform. Destiny, is a very creative being! She finds joy in opening the minds of others.

How was growing up in Atlanta? How was your childhood?

Well, most may or may not know this, but I am not from Atlanta. I am originally from New York, born and raised. I moved to Georgia when I was 17, approaching my senior year of high school. I’ve been residing in the Dirty South for about four years now. My childhood was a very lovely experience minus the health issues I experienced due to my premature birth. I wasn’t a normal child growing up. I have always had an old soul, a soul that was beyond my years. Some, may say that I am very much like my father in that way. There were plenty of times, when I enjoyed playing by myself. I had a few friends that I was close to. If I wasn’t around them, I was with my family. I spent a lot of time around the people who meant something to me. I didn’t mind spending time with people who were older, I found a significant amount of enjoyment in doing so. Needless to say I am very grateful for this journey we call life.

You have your own blogs,  blogbyherbeautyspeaks.co and thefashionandstyleblog.com, what is your focus and who’s your audience?

For anything I do, the focus is always to inspire! I find joy in using my gifts as a way to open the minds of others. I find joy in having the ability to tell a story in many forms of artistic expression. My audience is whoever is willing to listen. But, specifically, my audience is always my beautiful black community, particularly women of color. I write for men and women who know what it is like to struggle and overcome adversity.

When did your love for poetry occur?

The love for writing has always been in me. I loved writing as a kid. Honestly, I loved doing anything that allowed my mind to think and my hands to create. But, as far as writing poetry is concerned that didn’t occur until I was about sixteen. I was going through a lot of things at the time, so I wrote my way through the pain if you will. It was a very heart-wrenching experience that lasted for a few years. The feeling of unhappiness was spreading like wildfire throughout my mind + body, so writing poetry served as a way for me to cope. I have been storytelling through rhythmic composition ever since. Thankfully, my writing style and inspiration has changed dramatically over the years which is something that I didn’t expect to happen.

You’re in the process of writing your own book, what can we expect?

Yes, I am currently in the process of completing my first book titled “inmyskin” which is an ode to women who know what it is like to struggle and overcome adversity. It is for all of the women who are on the journey of self-discovery. One can expect an honest and genuine compilation of poems that reflects the everyday woman in every possible way. One can expect to witness a story that most can attest to. One can expect to see all of the good, the bad, and the ugly that us women go through. One can expect to be inspired after reading each piece.

What is your ultimate goal? What do you have planned for your future?

The ultimate goal is to help others think in a better light. The ultimate goal is to inspire anyone in need. The ultimate goal is to open the doors for those to have the opportunity to feel, I want others to know that it is okay to be who they are. It is okay to go through struggles. We are human for a reason. I hope to continue to uplift the minds, hearts, and souls of as many as possible.

Future plans consists of seeing my writing and face in an upcoming magazine by the name of thecultureshift magazine. A online and soon to be published magazine that is dedicated to the culture and arts of African-Americans. A self-portrait series will be in the works soon, as well as the book. I am a contributing writer for a few more amazing movements by the names of LuTrending.com & The Noisy Corner, so feel free to check those platforms out. I don’t know what else God has in store, but what I do know that whatever he has planned next will be nothing short of great, so stay tuned!
