We had to pleasure of speaking with Sophia! Sophia definitely has a big personality that comes with an even bigger heart. We hope her story and words of encouragement inspires you.

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s one mistake you’ve made in the past that you can say you’ve learned from?

My name is Sophia Idahosa and I’m Nigerian. My flesh is 18 but my soul is very seasoned. I’ve made a lot of mistakes but one that has done the job of making me who I am today was being too hard on myself for things theatre beyond my control. A lot of things happen in life and it’s wrong to be too hard on yourself, I’ve learned to accept that my job is to take the good and bad with a grain of salt. My heavy thinking was an extreme flaw. I would over analyze everything. Mentally, everything had to have a conclusion/valid reason. My family is quite dysfunctional and I would always get dangerously far into thoughts of what if I had it better and blame myself for a lot of things that happened in my childhood that really weren’t in my control, especially being so young. Took a while for me to realize that God doesn’t have to give us a reason. I was striving for utopia and I found fault in everything. And I’m very young. But I’m always told that I seem way older, because of my ripe mind and personality.

Who/ What inspires you?

Jesus inspires me, love inspires me.

If you could give a young girl words of encouragement, what would they be?

If I could tell a little girl a word of encouragement, it would be to have a firm understanding on what she wants to believe. Be open to different ideas and beliefs but never compromise something you believe to be true. If that makes sense …

What do you love about yourself the most?

WI love most about myself is my willingness to adapt grow and learn. Wherever you place me, I find a way to belong and belong well. I love taking up opportunities that challenge me to be uncomfortable and grow. And I’m not ashamed of being unsure because I love to learn.

What are your goals for now?

My goals are to get into the right 4-year college, better myself, progress tremendously and love people unconditionally.
