4 Bible Verses You Should Live By When You're in a relationship or married
By Manuela Domingos
Marriage is tough. Our nation’s divorce rate is proof. But the bible makes it clear that marriage is not impossible and it is not meant to result in a life of headache and heartache. A relationship should be centered around trust, compassion, and love. If you are a Christian, chances are you value your relationship with Christ and like many of us, you desire a healthy and loving marriage. I’ve compiled a list of bible verses that serves as a reminder of our relationship with God. These verses should also guide the way we treat our significant others.
Philippians 1:9-11 (MSG): So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus would be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God.
Colossians 3:12-14 (ESV): Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Malachi 2:14-15 (NLT): You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows. Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit, you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 (NLT): Live happily with the women you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is the reward for all your earthly soil.
