An Open Letter to My Sister in Christ
By Manuela Domingos
Dear Sister in Christ,
As someone in her early 20s navigating through a challenging time, I want to tell you that I can relate to any struggle you may be facing during this critical period of your life. I also want to tell you that I understand how hard it may be to constantly battle the shackles of temptation, how challenging it can be to keep up with your spiritual food, and how difficult it may be to love unconditionally in a world that seems to become progressively evil and increasingly harder to love.
I want to tell you that I understand those sleepless nights where you paint the images of failure way before you give success a chance to blossom.
I also want to let you know that regardless of what obligation others may impose on you because you are a believer, you are not entitled to please anyone but Him alone.
Know that you do not have to be perfect, but instead strive to channel all the wonderful characteristics of your Creator.
Know that you can choose to freely love your neighbor and those who persecute you, and that you are as strong as the weight of a thousand mountains when you choose to walk away from the very darkness that pulls you further and further away from what is good.
Know that you will fail quite often, often times a lot of times. And that during these times you may feel the need to take matters into your own hands.
You will feel weak, defeated, and buried.
But know that you are not alone.
He shines bright in the midst of your darkness and when you are weak, He is your fortress.
When you are in the deepest pits of unimaginable and overbearing darkness, He is present watching over you. He understands the difficult equation to your situation although you may feel it is unsolvable.
Know that you were uniquely placed upon this earth for a purpose, although at times it may feel as if you are wondering aimlessly through life.
Most importantly, know that you are special and that you are loved through the face of oppression.
It’s not going to be easy, but through His grace, you will overcome.
Your Sister in Christ, rooting for you.
