Don't Forget About the LGBT Community Inside the U.S.
By Isabella Rolz
A few weeks ago I published an article that emphasized the successful progress the LGBT community has acquired throughout the 21st century in the United States. And by this success I want to point out all the rights they have achieved, including legal marriage in every single state. Let’s not forget about the love is love movement celebrated in many states, which also gained worldwide recognition. Overall, these couple of years have been astonishing for the LGBT community.
There’s a concept used in finance called a black swan, which is an unexpected event that happens as a surprise. The Orlando catastrophe was a black swan. It was all so unpredictable: a massacre inside a gay club, killing approximately 50 innocent lives. A massacre that can be seen as a step back in the huge progress LGBT community amassed. A massacre that perfectly accentuates how homophobia can evolve into so much hate and the slaughter of several lives.
Let’s end this now! Let’s end, all of this hate, which keeps on growing and ends up with occurrences like this one. Let’s learn to respect each other, regarding one’s ethnicity, religious views, or sexual orientation. Let’s learn to construct a peaceful world, where love is love, and hatred is unacceptable.
The United States of America is a country known for accepting diversity, offering opportunities and creating change. Let’s not forget about the American dream and ruin the present with tragedies like this one. On the contrary, let’s celebrate social progress and reiterate that love is love.
