We were excited to speak with the inspiring and beautiful make up artist Noella. Noella is going to shake the world of make up. Be ready, she has something up her sleeves!
How was your childhood growing up?
Being born in Nigeria and having to come to the states at 5, my childhood was interesting. I was a tom boy due to the presence of my two older brothers. I wanted to be like them! Sooner than later, Thank God, I became my own woman.
What has molded you into the person you are today?
There’s been situations in my past that normally, you’d probably never hear a child or teen has been through, which I will give full detail in my blog I’ve been working on, that have played a part in who I am today. To be here is a blessing!!
Were there any obstacles that you’ve faced, and/ or any insecurities you’ve overcome?
Insecurities? Most of us have experienced weight insecurities, other than that, I have and always will be confident in my work and who I am. Obstacles? YES. One major obstacle I’ve encountered came in the form of a fire that occurred in my room in 2013. I lost everything. I had just started a good job at a makeup counter and I was really building the BeautyByElla brand. The fire consumed everything, including School books, all my furniture and ALL my makeup. Maybe over $1000 worth of makeup. Thankfully, God has been a source of everything that I lost in that fire.
What inspired you to become a makeup artist? And how’d you get started?
My mom used to tell me stories about how I would run in her purse and put makeup all over my face at the age of 3 or 4. She knew then that I would definitely do something in relation to the artistry of makeup. I always found makeup to be a getaway from the rest of the normal world. I always loved how behind the scenes everyone looked so happy getting their makeup done. In high school, I had my very first paying client at 15! Although she was family and let me experiment and it was $15. At 17 I landed a job at Clinique at Macy’s. After finding a better opportunity at Bare minerals, then came Sephora. In all that, to know you’ve done something for someone was who may have been having an “ugly” day, or that first timer who’s never gotten their makeup done, it’s all a blessing and it keeps me going.
What are your plans for the future?
For the near future, I have plans on starting a YouTube channel and a blog in which I’ll not only touch on makeup but real life issues… although im a little behind… I’m waiting on Gods go ahead.
In the next 2 Years, ill be partnering with some really awesome people… expect to see something really big…. really big from me. Get ready Houston!
